The Parties are FINALLY Over

Today was another crazy day. I spent all morning with the girls at Granny Annie's eating breakfast and planning all of our achievement day activities for 2009. When I got home, Mikey and I spent the afternoon cooking and getting ready for our street party. I got this great idea to host a street party a few months ago, got my neighbor involved, and tonight was finally the big night. (Our first attempt got snowed out a few weeks ago). Everything went really well. The weather was great today - in the 70's, so even after it got dark, it was still really nice outside. We had a good turnout, good food, and good company. After 3 birthdays, Halloween, and a street party in the last two weeks, I am officially partied out. I have a few weeks to recover before Thanksgiving is at my house!

Happy Happy Halloween

Halloween with little kids is the best! Friday afternoon we headed to Mikey's work to trick-or-treat. I must say that it was a different experience this year. His company went from 86 employees at the beginning of the month to only 27 after severe layoffs. It was definitely quieter this year. We headed home for a quick Halloween dinner of our traditional mummy dogs. I made "blood" to drink for dinner, but Avery refused to play along with that one. She said pretending to actually drink blood was to gross. Dinner was followed by trick-or-treating. I took the kids out this year since the weather was awesome. I usually let Mikey brave the cold, but this year I got to go in short sleeves and sandals. Of course the kids had the best time ever. We met up with Avery's friend Grace and got to trick-or-treat with her. Avery waved her little fan the entire night. It was adorable. After trick-or-treating, we went to find Uncle Dell. He was hiding out in his house with the lights off. Colleen was out of town and he said he needed a Halloween vacation. He did have treats for our kids though (and we ate a few too!). We had another wonderful Halloween with our kids! Oh, and you may be thinking Aidan's costume looks awfully familiar...he really wanted to be a pirate this year, not remembering he was one last Halloween. I figured it was so convenient considering his costume from last year fit perfectly this year! Very cost effective I must say!

Carving Pumpkins

Thursday night we carved pumpkins. We got a little lazy this year and only carved two - one for each kid. They each designed their own jack-o-lantern. I love that both kids are old enough to be super excited about holidays and to both know what is going on! So fun.

Not a Happy China Girl

On Wednesday Avery got to wear her Halloween costume to preschool. She was so tired that all she could seem to do was cry all morning...especially because of the chopsticks in her hair. I had to post these pictures because this was the only time she had her costume on with the chopsticks in place. The poor girl tried to smile in the first picture through her tears! Luckily she had a great time at her Halloween party at school.

Aidan is "tree" years old

On October 26, little Aidan turned 3. I can't believe my baby is no longer a baby! He honestly is the cutest kid. He woke up so excited and started singing "happy birthday to me." Church was interesting because he was so excited that it was finally his birthday (since he had to wait his turn after Mikey's birthday on the 17th and Avery's on the 20th). He ran out of church when it was time to leave singing VERY loudly "happy birthday to me" over and over. Don't worry, it was more funny than obnoxious. When we got home, we let him open a present so he would have a new toy to play with during the afternoon. Nap-time did not happen...the poor kid was so excited for his "George" party that he couldn't sleep. Evan and Bridget arrived around 3:30. Festivities included party hats, party blowers, and even monkey masks. After dinner we opened presents. Aidan was so funny. He had this crazy face every time he would open another present and as he was opening it, he would say in a funny voice "what is it, I don't know!" My favorite was when he was opening a carpet race track from Gramma Becky. The carpet was all rolled up and he got it half-way unwrapped and started yelling, "It's a LOG!!!" as if it was the coolest thing ever to get a log. He was still excited when he realized it was a carpet that he could race his cars on. Presents were followed by ice cream cake (so he still can't really blow out a candle, but he sure did try hard!). Then off to bed for Aidan in his new jammies from Evan and Bridget. No nap and lots of fun = very early bedtime. It was a great day! I love that kid!

Syracuse Pumpkin Walk

Saturday Oct 25 we spent the evening going to Adam and Sara's for Macey's 1st birthday. Sara did a great job with the party and cooked an awesome dinner. We left the party early to take the kids to the Pumpkin Walk in Syracuse. We love going to this every October (unfortunately this year we didn't get there until 8pm and had to wait an hour in line to get in). The city lines up over 800 jack-o'-lanterns that people have carved and donated all throughout a park. The kids absolutely love it. There are even volunteers all throughout the walk that hand out candy and treats to the kids. Unfortunately I forgot my camera, but I found a few pictures online to steal.
