Avery lost her second tooth (1/15)

Mikey's first visit to this wonderland...and if you haven't already heard...



I had my Ultrasound on Jan.2. On the way there, I kept telling Avery that it might be a girl, but that it also could be a boy. She told me, "if it is a boy, I will be happy for one minute. If it is a girl, I will be happy forever!" I was relieved that she can be happy forever. While we were still in the ultrasound room, Avery kept telling Aidan, "you are SO lucky that you are going to have two sisters!" Aidan, on the other hand, was very nervous during the whole visit. As it turns out, he was afraid that the doctor was going to put the cold gooey stuff on his tummy next. Poor little scared-to-death-of-doctors guy! Next comes the fun of rearranging bedrooms, furniture, painting, and baby clothes shopping...all of my girl clothes are out of season...remind me why I have towers and towers of storage totes full of baby clothes in my basement that I won't even be able to use?

New Years

Happy New Year...way late. I am finally forcing myself to blog about a few things since this is basically our family journal. We threw ourselves a little New Years party. Avery made the decorations and the big game of the night - it was something like pin the sunshine in the sky. We fixed traditional family New Year's favorites for dinner and celebrated the New Year at 9 with the kids as well as at midnight. Mikey was trying so hard to stay up for the actual New Year that when I woke him up (don't tell him that he fell asleep), he jumped up, ran into the kitchen to get the sparkling cider, and knocked one of the glasses off of the counter. I was scurrying to sweep up the millions of pieces before the countdown was over. It just seemed like bad luck to have broken glass all over the floor for the New Year...I made it with 7 seconds to spare. Hopefully 2009 will only bring us great things!

Christmas...Finally

Our holiday season this year was very calm and relaxed. Usually we travel to NC or Boise to see family, but this year we just stayed here and vacayed at our house. Mikey had almost two weeks off and we all enjoyed spending extra time with him. Avery is still asking, almost a month later, "does Daddy get to skip work again today?" (We tried to explain that he was taking vacation time and not just skipping). We did enjoy a fun visit from Mikey's family for a few days after Christmas - somehow I didn't get any pictures of their trip!

Christmas Eve we made our cookies for Santa, ordered pizza, and watched a movie. We also watched the nativity movie, but the kids were falling apart before we could do our annual "live nativity". Maybe next year.

Christmas Day was so much fun this year...with a 5 and a 3 year old, this was our most exciting Christmas yet. Aidan LOVED the whole Santa thing and was so happy to get the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse play set that he had asked for. Avery was very happy to finally get her beloved Ruthie American Girl Doll. I don't think I have ever seen her quite that happy! We spent the rest of our day playing with the new toys and calling our families. I fixed an awesome Christmas dinner, even if I didn't get it finished until after 7...oops. Better late than never!

A Sunbeam

Aidan went to nursery for the last time on Sunday and is excited to start going to primary this week. This morning we were getting ready for the "meet your teacher" breakfast. Aidan told us, "I'm gonna be a sunbeam, but I don't want to go in the sky." Funny kid.
