This weekend I gave a bridal shower for my sister. We had it at Jeff's grandma's house so that people wouldn't have to drive over an hour to Kaysville from Provo/Orem. The shower went well and Whitney was very cute. After the shower, Avery and I went with Bridget to see Evan in his science lab at BYU. I can't believe my little brother is a lab rat! When he finished prepping petree dishes (or something like that), we went to visit Grandma Steed for a few minutes and then went to take flowers and a flag to Grandpa's grave. Avery was awesome...it is so fun that she is old enough to do "big girl" things with me! When we got home, Avery was very excited to find a rolley polley bug on the driveway.

The New Kids on the Block were on the Today Show this morning. It was awesome - a crowd full of women in their late twenties-early thirties re-living their childhood while the aged, desperate, untalented band played their old hits. Of course I loved them when I was in third grade, who didn't. They were my first cassette tape. I remember my mom got mad when someone compared them to the Beatles...um, it was obvious today why that comment upset her. I think all those BYU ward talent shows where boys imitated 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys were better then what I saw this morning. Some things are just better left alone.

Buggie Man

Call me crazy, but I am a little obsessed with keeping my kids' faces clean and snot-free, their hair fixed, and their clothes spot-free. I must say that this can be a challenge at times, considering that they are 4 and 2. My point is that I try hard to not have "snotty nosed-graham cracker faced kids" (as my neighbor terms it). Today I fell a little short of this goal. At 2 pm I attended a neighborhood meeting where a local media station was present. Our neighborhood is having problems with our concrete - driveways chipping, etc - so I went to support the cause...strength in numbers, right? When I got to the meeting, I stayed in the background with my little kids until the reporter said the last time they ran a story like this, the people who were interviewed got their driveways fixed. I bee lined to the front of the group volunteering for an interview...I figure might as well chance embarrassment (um saying something stupid - it has been known to happen- or to let everyone see our yard with unfinished, weedy flower beds - its a work in progress) in order to get our builder to step up and to save ourselves several thousands of dollars. I picked up Aidan for the interview because I didn't want him running into the street and getting hit by a car. About halfway through the interview, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Aidan was picking his nose. Strange, I thought, since Avery has always been our resident gold digger. I immediately put him down and finished the interview. Afterwards, I turned to Aidan only to find a VERY large bugger smeared all over his chin (that would explain the stuffy nose he had had all day). So, my nose picking, bugger-faced child should be on TV for all to see soon...we better get our driveway fixed.

Aidan yet again became attached to a piece of produce tonight (see here). Cheap entertainment, but if we could only get him to EAT the healthy food!

Ode to 9am church

The last two weeks have been a lot of "fun". First Avery got sick with a high fever (103.5) that lasted for 5-6 days. Three days after she was finally better, Aidan got it. His fever routinely hit 104 for 5 days. We did have a nice visit from Gramma Becky and Emily in between the sickness - they timed it just right and we had a fun time! We didn't take many pictures from the visit, but I did get one of Gramma reading to the kids.

Today we had Stake Conference, so we were finished with church by noon. I must say how much I dislike 1pm church - I think we have had it for four years and running (or something like that-I am losing track)...can't wait to someday have 9am church again! When we got home, we packed up a little food and headed up to the bottom of Farmington Canyon. We enjoyed the great scenery, weather, and a nice little lunch. We then headed home - Aidan took a nap and Avery and I made cupcakes. We have all been wanting cupcakes since my cousin made some a few weeks ago and I finally gave in to the craving...we had to have one last hurrah before Cinco de Mayo. (Cinco de Mayo is the start of all things healthy in our house, or at least a lot more healthy - wish us luck). It was so nice to have the whole afternoon to spend together!
