Fourth of July

The 4th of July this year was one of the best days ever. It started early with a 5k at the high school. This was the first race that I have run in 9.5 years, so it was a big deal -- even big enough to wake up the kids at 6:30 am to go. My goal was to run it under 30 minutes. Despite half the race being up hill (oh the pain), I managed 27:52 and was ecstatic. (Okay, so I'm not as fast as I was 10 years ago, but remember I'm older, fatter, and have birthed two kids.)

Before...and after. It's a nice "I am getting ready to die and you want me to smile?" face.

After the race, we went to the Kaysville parade. Not sure how I have lived in Davis county for 5 years and have never gone to this amazing event! It was the cutest parade I have ever seen. All the kids were running in the street collecting candy thrown from the floats. After the real parade was over, a water parade began. Imagine numerous floats, firetrucks, etc coming down the street spraying everyone in the crowd and the crowd fighting back soaking everyone on the floats...apparently you are supposed to bring water guns, etc. for this...It was the biggest water fight I have ever seen - we kept looking down Main St. in amazement as you could see THOUSANDS of people throwing water at each other. It was amazing. Of course Avery had to do some classic poses for the camera while we were waiting for the parade to begin.

After afternoon naps, we headed to Uncle Dell's and Aunt Colleen's for a BBQ -- delicious food, games, and fireworks. Oh, and homemade ice cream! We had a great night. Thank you Hanks family!

Way to go on your race time! That is awesome! I'm a slow runner so I am going to say it is getting older, fatter and birthing two babies too.

What a fun 4th too.

That is the only parade I have ever liked - and I LOVED it when I was a kid. Trust me, you just established some killer memories for your kids.
