Book Club

Anyone up for an American Literature virtual book club? I chose this reading list as a basic guide...it seems to be a nice mix, although I did have to laugh at a few of the choices. The dilemma comes when I want to re-read some really great ones that are on this list (like Winesburg, Ohio), but should probably read ones I haven't read first. Argg. The first few I will be reading are Caramelo by Sandra Cisneros, As I Lay Dying by Faulkner, The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, and hopefully I will finally get The Red Badge of Courage read (never can quite get into that one).

Good idea Natalie. Nick and I are in (Lachelle that is, not Keyton. He prefers 17th century Brit Lit). This is the most random list. Where did you get it? Some of my favorites are:

Kingsolver, Barbara, The Poisonwood Bible He's a MN guy: O'Brien, Tim, Things They Carried Steinbeck, John, East of Eden,
Steinbeck, John, The Grapes of WrathWalls, Jeannette, The Glass Castle: a memoir.

I really liked The House on Mango Street, a novella by Sandra Cisneros.

I've put the following on hold: The Ben Franklin Autobiography, Tim O'Brien one that's not Things they Carried, the Narrative of and American Slave, and another I can't remember right now. I'll see which one grabs me. There are too many books out there to read ones you don't like.

American literature, I'm ashamed to say, is probably my least favorite genre. Still, I'd consider it.

How does an online book club work, exactly?

okay, not sure exactly how an online book club works...I am not computer savvy. However, it should involve a forum of comments and somehow food must be involved. Let me know if you have ideas.
