These beautiful pictures were snapped on our traditional Sunday afternoon conference session drive. Every General Conference, we spend the final session listening on the radio while we go see the autumn leaves. This year's ride turned into quite the (mis)adventure. We decided to head up East Canyon. After getting about half way up, I looked over at the gas gauge and asked Mikey if he thought we had enough to finish the drive. Mikey doesn't drive the Pilot very often, and he assumed there was plenty left. The gas light in the Accord apparently doesn't come on until the needle is touching "E". As we reached the top of the mountain, the gas light came on. Knowing we didn't have enough to make it back to SLC, we plugged in the GPS, which proceeded to take us down a desolate gravel road. I can honestly say 6 miles into the gravel road, I started freaking out. It was cold, the road was deserted, we were wearing flip flops, and only had light jackets with us. How could we be so unprepared and careless? The washboard road luckily was keeping the kids entertained, but worried little Aidan said a prayer for us that we would make it before running out of gas. Apparently this little road connects East Canyon to Parley's Canyon and we were able to make it to a gas station while enjoying a breathtaking drive. I won't ever forget filling up the car while listening simultaneously to Conference on the radio on a Sunday. There is nothing I hate more than breaking the Sabbath, and here we were doing just that, yet I felt so watched over that afternoon. I definitely regret our carelessness, but vowed to be more prepared in the future.
