On the Road...

We've been talking about taking the kids to Disneyland for years. We decided a while back we should try to go in May after Mikey finished the semester. Pretty soon finals week was here and we still had no plans - trying to coordinate between both of his jobs and life was just standing in the way. On Sunday (May1), we decided to book our hotels and go - two days later. Wednesday we left and headed for Vegas. We stopped in Vegas with the kids a few years back and had a great time, so we were excited to go show them the lights again. This trip we had fun, but were disappointed at how much dirtier the strip was than it was a few years ago. I guess when the economy crashes, Vegas pulls out all of the tricks...literally.

First stop was M&M World. You could have an entire M&M life if your heart so desired: M&M dishes, bath towels, bedding, etc. Insane. Floors and floors of memorabilia.

Next stop: Making an old middle school dream come true. When I was in middle school, everyone had a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt. I still think I was probably the only person in the world that didn't have a t-shirt and that had never eaten at the restaurant. FINALLY - only 15+ years later - I went to a Hard Rock Cafe and it did not disappoint. Fabulous hamburger, fabulous brownie sundae. I did decide to pass on the t-shirt; I think I missed that boat in the 90's.

Our final strip stop was the Belagio. We had to wait forever for those fountains to start. We found out later that they were filming a commercial for Las Vegas in front of the hotel and they were holding the fountains while they positioned all the actors. In the meantime, the kids made a lot of funny faces and enjoyed seeing people dressed up as action figures and cartoons. I still don't know why they do that. When the show finally started, the kids were in heaven as you can see on little Lucy's face.

Back at the hotel, the kids had a great time playing and swinging from the luggage cart. That cart was more entertaining than half of Disneyland. Avery was also impressed that there was a free breakfast and a Book of Mormon in the room. I love that she already appreciates free stuff even though she doesn't have a complete sense of money value. I loved that the hotel was practically brand new and CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Thank you Mr. Marriott.
